Court Awards

I was thrilled to assist in awarding four inspiring individuals with Court Awards last week at St Albans Crown Court.

A Court Award is made to a person who, in the opinion of a Crown Court Judge, has been active in the apprehension of a person charged with an offence. It is in recognition of the public spirited and sometimes very brave part they played bringing about an arrest of someone brought before the court.

The High Sheriff is ordered by the judge to make the award of a sum of money, and the recipient also receives a certificate, which is presented after a commendation is read about each individual, on this occasion by His Honour Judge Andrew Bright or His Honour Judge Stephen Warner.

In the presence of their friends and family, it was a real privilege to meet such community minded individuals and learn more about their fantastic achievements.
