Introducing the Bishop's Stortford Police Cadets!

I was extremely honoured to attend the inauguration of the Bishop’s Stortford Police Cadets on Wednesday evening at the town's Fire Station.

Chief Constable Charlie Hall was in attendance, to welcome the new recruits, as was Cllr Colin Woodward, who had the idea to create a Bishop’s Stortford branch of the cadets, during his tenure as Mayor last year.

The evening began with the handing out of their uniform, a briefing on what being a Cadet involves and a setting of expectations.

42 cadets were in attendance and were put through their paces on their first evening, being drilled by the Army Cadet Force, led by Lieutenants Tom Lawrence and Stuart Norman and undergoing bleep tests. The new recruits proved themselves to be very committed and enthusiastic, working well together in teams and enjoyed the evening greatly.

This new Cadet group will be the 11th Volunteer Police Cadet unit in the county, the 10th being its sister unit in Hertford & Ware, both of which have been set up by Chief Inspector Luke Whinnett and Detective Constable Rob Scott.

I know Luke and Rob would like to say a special thank you to Bishop’s Stortford College for their help in establishing this new unit and Volunteer Co-ordinators Jo Weller, Gail Franklin and Bob Cox.

Special mentions must go to Mozart, the Cadet’s Mascot and RAPPAW dog, who was impeccably well behaved on the night too!
